I’m guessing one reason is to insulate Medium’s editors and preferred authors from criticism or corrections. For example, Anna Dorn just published a featured article titled, “Kim Kardashian is a Better Person than You,” discussing Kim’s desire to become a criminal justice attorney. Dorn wrote, “Of all the Kardashian twists and turns, this one threw me for the biggest loop. Mostly because I am a lawyer myself.”

Here’s the problem: Kim Kardashian’s father, Robert Kardashian, is a famous lawyer in L.A. I only know this because he was on O.J. Simpson’s legal team. Nowhere in the article does the author mention this relevant background, instead chalking up Kim’s desire to become a lawyer to pure altruism. When historians study America’s swift rise and fall, they’ll surely cite the fact that even the so-called best and brightest within the country consciously or unconsciously decided internet clicks and the Hollywood propaganda machine’s vast business interests were more important than the truth.
